What the drug companies don't want you to know - seriously! [10-26-04]

By Jaye, Distinquished Community Member, MGH's PD Brain Talk Community--
I'm a member of Consumers Union, the group that puts out Consumer Reports magazine, and just got this in my e-mail. This is totally nonpartison and non-election related. No one pays Consumer Reports to print anything in their magazine--they even buy the items they test.
Quote:
You may have read in the recent issue of Consumer Reports that drug companies are hiding information from the public that shows that their drugs may have dangerous side effects. The companies promote the studies that make their drugs look good, but hide the results that reveal bad side effects. There is a simple solution to this problem that Congress is considering - register all drug studies in one location and report all the results. Please click here to let your members of Congress know that you want ALL the information about your prescription drugs.
Shouldn't consumers - as well as doctors - have access to these important safety studies before they take or prescribe prescription drugs? The result of an information gap can be tragic.
Drug companies have gotten away with enough. It is time to put our safety first and require a mandatory, comprehensive clinical trials registry and reporting.
Urge your members of Congress to stop drug companies from burying important research. Click here to contact them now. It will only take 2 minutes.
After you take action, please send an email to your friends and family about this important issue and ask them to join you in contacting their members of Congress. Momentum is building to fix this problem but we need even more support to make the clinical trials registry a reality.
Thank you,
Jim Guest, President Consumers Union 101 Truman Ave. Yonkers, NY 10703

| It is my personal belif that if the drug companies were to eliminate all the extra crap (pens, clocks, etc.) in your doctor's offices we would all be better off. Advertising, such as tv, magazine and dr.'s paraphanalia (sp?), the cost of drugs may also go down? | |
