In a study,* researchers learned that of 68 men with Parkinson's disease, 35% had low levels of testosterone, a male hormone. Low testosterone can lead to depression and anxiety, and antidepressants don't always help. Separately, five men with PD who reported loss of energy were found to have decreased levels of testerone, and were treated with testosterone replacement. In all five men,
testosterone supplementation improved fatigue, depression, anxiety, and
libido.
